Skovshoved – Copenhagen
The first visiting Hobie sailors flew in on Friday morning and in the evening, there was good hobie vibes in the sailing club, where sailors from out of town slept. In total, we were 11 Hobie Cats from Denmark and two from Germany.
Saturday began with a hearty breakfast, and a postponement followed the skippers’ meeting. We spent the time rigging, trimming, socializing, ironing shirts for the night, and having lunch.
Eventually, restlessness set in; Anders and Miguel headed out first, followed by Ulrik and Claus. Once we were on the water, the wind picked up, and the rest of the fleet joined us for three good races—featuring some trapezing, two port-tack starts, and a single premature start. There was a bit of luck involved—whether or not we found the “golden vein” on the course—but everyone enjoyed the action.
At 5:00 PM, we sailed back for drinks on the pier and changed for dinner at the restaurant. It was a lovely evening, and by 9:00 PM, we all headed our separate ways, thoroughly tired.
Sunday started with a postponement until 11:30 AM, when the wind arrived and we raced in 5 m/s conditions. We managed one race in highly shifty winds before the breeze died completely; we then waited an hour, having lunch and relaxing on the trampolines. Just as the race officer, “Hønse,” called it a day, a really good wind kicked in, allowing us to run downwind almost all the way back. Then came the prize-giving, packing up the boats, farewells, and cleanup.
