The event started with a challenging and action-packed day 1.
The competitors were met with tough conditions in an extremely gusty breeze with average windspeeds around 16-20 knots gusting up to around 30+ knots. And for short while even up to 40 knots measured at the top-mark during the passage of a squall.
3 races were completed before the competitors were sent back ashore to well-deserved free drinks.
The wind conditions on day 2, the last day of the event, luckily turned out to be in sharp contrast to the high gusty winds on day 1.
It started with a light 5-8 knots breeze in the morning slowly increasing to around 12 knots in the last of the 4 races of day 2. Making it a total of 7 races for the event.
The competitors may rightfully claim they at this championship were tested on all their skills from almost no wind up to something near “survival”. They are all winners in this context, and this includes those who decided not to race or returned from racing Saturday due to the heavy and gusty wind conditions. It defines a good sailor to know one’s limits and capabilities.
The event attracted many German teams as can be seen in the results. A support from our German Hobie friends we highly appreciated, and which contributed big time to make the event something special!
It also meant tough competition from excellent sailors. Hence, it was not just a simple act of Danish hospitality that most of the prizes went to German teams!😉

Calle, his team and Thurø Sejlklub put on the heck of an excellent 2024 Open Danish Hobie 16 Nationals (DS_DM) on and off water.
It all happened from a new venue “Smørmosen” on the island of Thurø nearby Svendborg. A venue which was “invented” by Calle & Co. particularly for this event. It has never been used for this kind of activity before. This choice of venue was highly praised by many competitors during the event, and they would love to come back should there be a new event there in the future.
It was topped with competent race management during almost the whole range of wind conditions over the two days.
And the catering team excelled throughout spoiling sailors and officials with a variety of tasty and delicious meals! What not to like?
