The Super Sail Tour, Germany’s most successful regatta tour, was held from 6 – 8 July 2018 in Scharbeutz. The Danish World Champion Daniel Björnholt with his crew Katja Winterskov won the top-seeded field of the 36 catamarans with a lead of just one point ahead of Jens Goritz / Katrin Wiese-Dohse and Detlef Mohr / Karen Wichard.
On Saturday, the cracks on two runners in front of the Scharbeutzer pier much was demanded. Offshore wind with gusts up to 30 knots was not only strenuous to sail, but also needed a good tactic on the water. Outstanding after two races was the performance of Ulf Hahn with his Brazilian forward Thais Langer, who drove straight back to the front of the field after a break of 7 years. “If we had not capsized in the third race, then maybe we could have taken the lead after 2 rounds into Sunday, but it was definitely great fun to be there,” said Ulf Hahn on Saturday night.
Sunday should then give the sailors another weather. The wind was not gone, but noticeably weaker, so that even the light crews were allowed to make bigger chances on front placements again. If the first race on Sunday could still be sailed to the end, the second and then last race had to be stopped after a 140 ° windshift. So at the end there were 4 races in the classification and the memory of a wonderful sailing day on Saturday.
The youth teams sponsored by ProSail for years now fight for the newly created California Beach Cup in an additional own rating. In addition to the challenge cup, the winner from the regattas of Grömitz, Scharbeutz and Kellenhusen in August will be inviting Volkswagen Freizeitmobile with their parents to the Island of Sylt in Westerland for the Final Race.
After two out of three regattas, the sailors Lasse and Stine Abratis from Nordwind Wassersport in Surendorf at Eckernförder Bucht will be leading the youth ranking. Already next weekend in Kellenhusen they can close the victory and win the new youth trophy.
