*THE FIRST two races in the Love Wine ‘Summer Breeze’ series will not take place this Sunday 31st May due to the continuing Government guidelines on 2 metre social distancing.
Hopefully the series will commence on Sunday 14th June.
*HOWEVER we intend to run some ad hoc racing off the beach this Sunday, depending on conditions, for same household members and possibly single hander H16’s if wind strength is 13kts or below.
This is not organised by the Club as such but more of an impromptu event for us sailors to enjoy a glide across the water. Maybe some relay racing depending on number of boats.
Just like the old days! Start time will be as close to 1:00pm as poss. Rigging up from 11:30am. There will also be rigging tips if required. SD rules on beach and boats apply.
*SAILING make sure to thoroughly check your Hobie over before putting to the water, especially the mast rigging, check there are no kinks in main and side stays and pins and shackles are in good order.
Tightening the tramp can also make a good difference to boat stiffness and performance, check and firm rudders, so important and a good wash down with soapy water will clean and shine a boat that’s been laid up in a field all winter. See Darren’s excellent ‘Maintenance Check’ list attached, also ‘H16 Rigging for Performance’, a good reminder for H16 ‘B’ Fleet sailors, all excellent info to get your boat sailing and performing well.
*A BIG THANK YOU to everyone that moved their Hobies out of field and grass verges recently so the areas could be cut and cleared. All boats were moved before the deadline which was great.
The areas are now cut and ready for the next big tide which is sometime away, remember boats can only be moved up for the big tide duration over 4 days max. Attached are the ‘Compound and Parking Rules’ as a reminder. Don’t forget 2020 Club numbered stickers must be showing on all boats by the end of this month. Tel Maria, Club admin on tel 745783 to pay over the phone and arrange collection.
*GREAT TO SEE so many Hobie’s out enjoying the perfect sailing conditions over the last few weeks, could be the Caribbean, hot sunny force 3 to 4, also a similar forecast for this Sunday! Many were same household crew and some single handed. Attached is a nice photo of top Wildcat helm and Dragoon Race Coach, Andy, enjoying a Dragoon solo sail last Saturday, force 3, spi up and trapezing, can’t be bad! Also attached a short clip of Ollie and his sister Hannah sailing their recently bought H16, celebrating Liberation week at the same time in pristine conditions.
*A MENTION for Cadet Tom Hunt who has progressed from H/Dragoon racing where he achieved good consistent results over the last few years. Tom is now sailing H16 and will start off in the ‘B’ Fleet. Also welcome to Lukasz who is new to sailing, he has bought a H/Dragoon ‘Sonny G’. If you see him on the beach please support him with rigging, tips etc. His brother may be buying one as well!
*THE JACKSON’S YS BAY RACES are on Sunday 28th June.
*THE SAVILLS CHANNEL ISLANDS Hobie Championships are on Saturday 11th & Sunday 12th July.
*THE RCIYC NEW ‘AL FRESCO’ DINING is proving very popular in this stunning weather, mouth watering menu, dining in the Marquee in the front of the Club, right on the sea.
