Winter

Ihca Calendar

Winter was late but it finally arrived here in the US and for me, it’s ski season. The boat is tucked away in the garage. Our friends in Florida are hosting their popular winter Hobie sailing events as sailors from the north travel in search of warmer weather.

Worlds date changes

Many of you watched our live stream with the date change announcement. If you haven’t seen this, it’s available on our YouTube channel and there is a nice review of how the world’s boats will be equipped. We realize this date change impacted some previously scheduled events but understand we are doing our best to react to the pandemic, ensure we can host the event safely and that our sailors are able to travel to the event. Hosting a world championship is complicated with many players involved, including the Hobie Cat Co. our hosts, and sponsors. Now mix in the realities of an evolving pandemic! Yes, we had to make a date change, but September is proving to be quite popular as entries have been brisk, and we are expecting some of the events to sell out soon. Be sure to enter soon, to secure your spot. We are expecting this will be the last world championships to use this 15-day format. In future events, we plan to split off some of the preliminary events and combine them with other regional championships to reduce the overall duration of the world championships.

2022 dates and updates

While the southern hemisphere is sailing, most of us in the north are on winter break and this is the time when schedules are set for the coming summer. To maximize participation, all regional associations should publish their dates as soon as they are confirmed. People don’t come if we don’t advertise. Get all your event details on public sites that are easily accessible by all. Private email groups or private Facebook groups are fine if you are in the group but neither will attract new people. You need to make the information public. Keep in mind some people do not use Facebook, so multiple outlets are best. The IHCA can help but we can’t advertise events we don’t know anything about. Help us help you by sharing information.

· Name of the Regatta/Event
· Dates
· Host/sailing club
· Host address and information about accommodation how to get to the location.
· As much information to attract new as well as current sailors.
· Contact and their email and or phone number; best way to reach them.
· If it is a series, please include the dates it will be held.
· The more information you supply, the more sailors including new sailors will know about your event.
